Granite Library
Salt Lake City, UT
The Granite library is a 31,000 sqft. new construction on the site of the former Granite High School. The Library is meant to replace three smaller library branches and provide community gathering and civic spaces that benefit the community.
The structure has a full outdoor playground, outdoor amphitheater, a plaza area with parking and electrical hookups for food trucks and walking trails that tie into nearby trail systems and sidewalks. The project incorporates a tree protection zone and the trees are regularly monitored by a certified arborist to track the health of the trees.
Indoor construction includes community meeting rooms, study rooms, a creativity lab with a video production room, public computer stations, children’s and business center. The building incorporates reclaimed wood from the old Granite High School floor. On display is a “Farmer’s Way” exhibit that houses several artifacts and memorabilia from the old school including a tile mosaic panel that was originally installed by the Class of 1925.
